An amendĀed AdĀminĀisĀtraĀtion of JusĀtice (InĀdictable OfĀfences) AmendĀment Bill 2025, conĀcernĀing JusĀtices of the Peace, was passed in the SenĀate yesĀterĀday, with AtĀtorĀney GenĀerĀal John JeĀreĀmie promisĀing to purĀsue legĀislaĀtive reĀform for betĀter stanĀdards of beĀhavĀiour on the part of JPs.
The bill was passed with 24 votes from the GovĀernĀment and all InĀdeĀpenĀdent senĀaĀtors. The six OpĀpoĀsiĀtion SenĀaĀtors votĀed against it.
JeĀreĀmie, piĀlotĀing the bill, said it sought to āremĀeĀdyā isĀsues conĀcernĀing search warĀrants and grantĀiĀng of bail for inĀdictable matĀters since the 2023 amendĀment of the AdĀminĀisĀtraĀtion of JusĀtice bill reĀmoved JPs from this.
