The Bar Owners Association of Trinidad and Tobago (BOATT) is calling for urgent consultation with the Government over proposed changes to the legal framework governing alcohol, warning that the requirements and fines outlined in Parliament could create problems for law-abiding businesses.
BOATT president Sateesh Moonesar said that while the Government’s intention behind the reasoning for an age limit was understandable, he strongly objected to several of the requirements and penalties discussed during the parliamentary debate.
“The intention behind the Prime Minister’s reasoning for raising the age limit is good and something that we do not object to,” he said in a telephone interview with the Express yesterday on the The Miscellaneous Provisions (Alcohol, Cannabis, Dangerous Drugs, Gambling and Tobacco) Bill.
