PresÂiÂdent of the Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo Scrap Iron DealÂers’ AsÂsoÂciÂaÂtion (TTSIÂDA), AlÂlan FerÂguÂson, says one recÂomÂmenÂdaÂtion to adÂdress copÂper theft is to cenÂtralise all scrap yards in orÂder to betÂter monÂiÂtor dealÂers’ inÂvenÂtoÂry.
His sugÂgesÂtion came durÂing a stakeÂholdÂer meetÂing that inÂcludÂed ofÂfiÂcials from the MinÂistry of Trade, InÂvestÂment and Tourism, the AtÂtorÂney GenÂerÂal’s OfÂfice, CusÂtoms and ExÂcise DiÂviÂsion, poÂlice and othÂer stakeÂholdÂers.
The meetÂing, which took place yesÂterÂday, folÂlowed an inÂciÂdent a day earÂliÂer in which a man alÂlegedÂly broke inÂto a Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo ElecÂtricÂiÂty ComÂmisÂsion (T&TEC) subÂstaÂtion at Brechin CasÂtle to steal copÂper. The susÂpect reÂportÂedÂly came inÂto conÂtact with a 132 kV breakÂer, causÂing a fault that reÂsultÂed in a voltÂage dip.
