NCB MerĀchant Bank (Trinidad and ToĀbaĀgo) LimĀitĀed says a US$2 milĀlion cash shipĀment seized at PiĀarĀco InĀterĀnaĀtionĀal AirĀport last month was a leĀgitĀiĀmate transĀacĀtion conĀductĀed in the orĀdiĀnary course of busiĀness beĀtween regĀuĀlatĀed fiĀnanĀcial inĀstiĀtuĀtions.
The stateĀment came afĀter a newsĀpaĀper reĀportĀed toĀday that auĀthorĀiĀties had launched an inĀvesĀtiĀgaĀtion inĀto the seizure of a white croĀcus bag conĀtainĀing US$2 milĀlion in cash at the South TerĀmiĀnal of PiĀarĀco InĀterĀnaĀtionĀal AirĀport on June 25. AcĀcordĀing to the reĀport, the monĀey origĀiĀnatĀed from NCB MerĀchant Bank and was desĀtined for MiĀaĀmi, with a stopover in JaĀmaica, beĀfore CusĀtoms and ExĀcise ofĀfiĀcials seized it over what they deĀscribed as "cerĀtain transĀacĀtionĀal and acĀcountĀabilĀiĀty deĀfiĀcienĀcies".
In a meĀdia reĀlease isĀsued toĀday, NCB MerĀchant Bank said the cash shipĀment refĀerĀenced in reĀcent meĀdia reĀports beĀlonged to the bank and reĀlatĀed to a transĀacĀtion conĀductĀed in the orĀdiĀnary course of busiĀness with anĀothĀer regĀuĀlatĀed fiĀnanĀcial inĀstiĀtuĀtion.
