ReĀgionĀal seĀcuĀriĀty exĀpert Dr Garvin HeerĀah says the desĀigĀnaĀtion of Iranās IsĀlamĀic RevĀoĀluĀtionĀary Guard Corps (IRGC), Lebanonās HezbolĀlah and Hamas as terĀrorĀist groups would bode well for T&Tās seĀcuĀriĀty staĀtus and efĀforts to preĀvent terĀror fiĀnancĀing.
HeerĀah, howĀevĀer, felt that any enĀforceĀment of poliĀcies or legĀisĀlaĀtion aimed at tackĀling the miĀgraĀtion of terĀror groups should be done with preĀciĀsion, clarĀiĀty and fairĀness in mind.
ReĀspondĀing to Guardian MeĀdiaās quesĀtions on MonĀday, HeerĀah, a forĀmer proĀfesĀsor with the EuĀroĀpean CenĀtre for SeĀcuĀriĀty StudĀies in GerĀmany on Counter TerĀrorĀism and TransnaĀtionĀal OrĀganĀised Crime (TOC), said he was not opĀposed to the GovĀernĀmentās deĀciĀsion to catĀeĀgorise these groups as terĀrorĀist orĀganĀiĀsaĀtions, but mainĀtained that efĀfecĀtiveĀly preĀventĀing the growth of terĀrorĀist orĀganĀiĀsaĀtions should be balĀanced with reĀspect to difĀferĀent deĀmoĀgraphĀics.
