TTUTA: Book grant delays unacceptable

The distribution of book grants only from yesterday has left the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) unhappy, with the union warning that the delays are placing additional pressure on families ahead of the new school year.

TTUTA president Crystal Ashe yesterday also criticised the decision to have school supervisors collect and distribute book grant cheques, arguing that the responsibility did not form part of their duties under the Education Act.

Ashe’s concerns came as principals, teachers and other school personnel reported for duty at schools yesterday ahead of the September 7 reopening.
