The body of 17-year-old schoolÂboy Gabriel NelÂson was found in the waÂters off MaÂyaro on TuesÂday afÂterÂnoon, bringÂing an end to an inÂtense search inÂvolvÂing poÂlice, resÂcue teams, vilÂlagers and fishÂerÂfolk.
NelÂson’s body was spotÂted shortÂly afÂter 2 pm by a vilÂlager aboard a fishÂing vesÂsel and latÂer reÂcovÂered. The Form Five stuÂdent of St Stephen’s ColÂlege had been reÂportÂed missÂing afÂter beÂing pulled unÂder by a rip curÂrent while bathing at Grand LaÂgoon, MaÂyaro, on SunÂday.
RelÂaÂtives said that around 4 pm, Gabriel, his 13-year-old brothÂer and their 20-year-old cousin, Nicholas Sinanan, enÂcounÂtered difÂfiÂculÂties while swimÂming about 50 feet from shore. The two othÂer boys manÂaged to reach safeÂty, but Gabriel was dragged unÂderÂwaÂter.
