On March 8 each year, we celÂeÂbrate InÂterÂnaÂtionÂal Women’s Day, highÂlightÂing the achieveÂments of women who conÂtinÂue to break barÂriÂers, chalÂlenge inÂequalÂiÂties, and shape deÂvelÂopÂment loÂcalÂly and globÂalÂly.
This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” unÂderÂscores a simÂple but powÂerÂful truth: meanÂingÂful progress reÂquires deÂlibÂerÂate conÂtriÂbuÂtions from govÂernÂments, inÂstiÂtuÂtions, comÂmuÂniÂties, and inÂdiÂvidÂuÂals. When we inÂvest in women, we all benÂeÂfit as a soÂciÂety.
In Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo, we have made enÂcourÂagÂing strides in women’s health. ConÂtinÂued govÂernÂment fiÂnancÂing of women’s health proÂgrammes, acÂcess to the HPV vacÂcine that helps preÂvent cerÂviÂcal canÂcer, and the inÂcreasÂing availÂabilÂiÂty of menÂtal health clinÂics are imÂporÂtant gains. These are achieveÂments we should celÂeÂbrate and proÂtect.
